Which Torrox areas do we serve?
We cover the whole municipality, part of the Axarquía and one of its coastal municipalities. The named areas in our location data are Torrox Costa, El Morche, El Peñoncillo, Torrox Park and Castillo Bajo-Conejito, together with the town of Torrox. Plots in the area vary, so the first photos you send should show the whole garden, not only the surface you want to change.
What makes a good set of outdoor steps?
Steps that feel the same from bottom to top, grip when wet and stay put. A flight in which one riser is higher than the rest is the classic cause of trips, so we measure the total rise first and divide it evenly before setting any tread.
- Even risers and treads along each flight, set out from the total height.
- A firm, well-bedded nosing on every step, so the front edge does not loosen.
- A small fall on each tread so water runs off instead of pooling.
- Landings where a long flight changes direction or meets a path.
- Material that matches or deliberately frames the terraces it connects.
We clad outdoor steps in concrete pavers, clay pavers or natural stone, laid on a solid base. If an existing flight is structurally unsound, rebuilding the concrete core is work for a builder, and we then lay the finish. Handrails are a separate item. If your steps need one, the rail is supplied and fixed by a metalworker or carpenter, but we can leave the paving ready for its posts, with sleeves or set-out points agreed in advance, so the finished cladding does not have to be drilled or broken afterwards.
How do terraces and paths work on a sloping plot?
As a sequence of level areas joined by steps or gentle ramps, each with its own route for rainwater. Trying to force one large flat terrace onto a slope usually means high retaining walls, which are beyond our scope, so we look for the layout that follows the ground.
Between levels, garden paths with firm edges keep soil from washing onto the paving. Where water already runs across your garden in heavy rain, our patio without puddles guide shows how falls and channels lead it away. If an existing terrace has sunk because the slope below it has moved, that is a base problem; the subsidence diagnosis service on our sister site deals with it.
Paperwork and the next step
The procedure for outdoor paving in Torrox, whether a responsible declaration under the Andalusian LISTA law or another route, is set by the municipal ordinance, so it is worth confirming with the town hall first. Rubble from the old surface goes through the municipal channel for household building waste, which we organise as part of the job.
For more on paving in the eastern province, see the Axarquía hub; for other municipalities, our areas page. Then send us a photo and the approximate m² – free, no-obligation quote, with one picture taken from the bottom of the slope looking up.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work in Torrox Park and El Peñoncillo?
Yes, along with Torrox Costa, El Morche, Castillo Bajo-Conejito and the town of Torrox. Send photos of the whole plot and mention how a vehicle reaches the house so we can plan deliveries.
Why are uneven steps dangerous?
Because people set their stride by the first few steps. A single riser that is higher or lower than the others breaks that rhythm and causes trips. We measure the full height and divide it evenly before building.
Can you clad existing concrete steps?
Yes, if the concrete core is sound. We check for cracks and movement, then lay pavers or stone on the treads and risers with firm nosings. If the core is broken, a builder rebuilds it first.
Which material is best for outdoor steps?
One with good grip when wet and pieces that can be set firmly at the edge. Concrete pavers, clay pavers and natural stone all work; the choice usually follows the terraces the steps connect.
My garden slopes steeply. Can you build one large terrace?
A single large level area on a steep slope often needs substantial retaining walls, which we do not build. We usually propose several smaller platforms that follow the ground, joined by steps.
How do you stop water running down the steps?
Each tread has a slight fall, each landing has an outlet to the side, and the terrace above is drained before its water reaches the flight. That keeps the steps safer and the base drier.
Do I need permission for new steps in Torrox?
Possibly. Under Andalusia's LISTA law many minor works without a project use a responsible declaration, but the town hall in Torrox can confirm the procedure for your job.
Can you pave a pool surround on a sloping plot?
Yes. The surround is laid level enough to walk on, with falls away from the water and towards a safe outlet. We recommend slip-resistance class 3, as the Building Code requires within its scope.
I live abroad. How do I follow the work?
We send a written plan in English, coordinate keys with a neighbour or manager and share photographs at each completed stage. Any change to the plan is confirmed with you first.
Where can I read about cost factors?
Steps take more time per square metre than flat paving, and access on a slope adds handling. Our sister site lists the factors that move the cost; here we quote in writing.
